When visiting the Epsom Equine Spa your horse will be fitted with a nappy to prevent it dirtying the spa water. Some horses do find this a little strange at first, but , most of them do not bat an eyelid. Once fitted with their nappy they are walked quietly into the spa, generally they do not mind this at all.
For a horses first treatment we are very slow and gentle with the filling of the spa and putting on of the air jets. If their first experience of the spa is a good one then the majority of horse thoroughly enjoy their spa sessions. It may take some a couple of sessions to become aclimatised, however, thus far I have found by the second sessions horses will let you fill the spa to your desired level and have the air jets on full for the full ten minute session.
A typical session last for 16 minutes, it takes 3 minutes to fill the spa, the actual treatment lasts for 10 minutes, and it takes 3 minutes to drain. If a horse becomes worried at any point the session can be stopped immediately.
We currently spa one horse who enjoys his sessions so much that the moment you put him into the spa he starts to scrape and stamp until you let the water in and turn the air on full then he stands very happily!
